Six firefighters were hospitalized Monday evening battling a four-alarm fire that erupted at the historic downtown Houston JP Morgan Chase Bank building, according to HFD.

The landmark skyscraper is located on the corner of Rusk and Main.

More than 100 firefighters battled the blaze that broke out on the 27th floor of the 36-story building shortly before 8 p.m.

Fire officials said they had some trouble getting water to the 27th floor because of a broken water pipe, but were able to extinguish the blaze around 11:20 p.m.

The fire was contained to only one floor, but smoke damage was everywhere, officials said.

Cleaning crews were in the building when the fire began, but all managed to make it out safely.

Six firefighters were transported to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation and all are expected to be OK.

Several streets surrounding the building were closed to traffic while crews processed the scene, but all have since reopened.

The Metro light rail was also shut down from the Downtown Transit Center to the University of Houston Downtown campus, Metro officials said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Many workers were turned away as they showed up for work Tuesday morning due to safety concerns.  Officials will not know how safe the building is for a couple more days.
