At 24 years old, Vernice Armour, a.k.a. Flygirl, set out to make a difference. She began with making history at home by becoming the first African-American woman on the Nashville Police Department’s motorcycle squad. Looking for more challenges, she signed up with the military and chose flying as her instrument of change.  Armour became the nation’s first African-American female combat pilot in the U.S. Marine Corps.
