Perry has come under attack over Social Security and his cancer vaccine order.

“That’s what we call getting beaten like a rented mule … and it’s because they don’t want to really talk about the issues they don’t have a record on. They want to deflect from the issue that’s the most important of the day and that is, ‘How do we get jobs created?’ ” Perry told the Herald in an exclusive interview. “All these side issues that obviously the mainstream media is interested in, they may make for entertaining TV or news reading, but the fact of the matter is they are all going to be for naught if we don’t get this economy moving.”

The surging presidential hopeful joked during the first debate that he felt like the “piñata at the party,” as his fellow Republican candidates turned up the heat. He faced even tougher scrutiny at the CNN/Tea Party Express Republican debate Monday.
