It’s been 50 years since Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. led his march on Washington to deliver one of the most famous speeches of all time: The “I Have A Dream” Speech.

HIS DREAM was that one day, we would live in a world that was racially integrated and filled with love; NoH8 (No Hate). Some feel as though we have a looooong way to go; others argue that Dr. King would be a happy man if he were alive today.

Well, wait a minute now.

Let me ask you this: Are we ALL playing on an equal field? or….Is Gay the New Black?

On Independence Day 2012, R&B singer Frank Ocean faced criticism after expressing his attraction to people of the same-sex.

Almost 4 months ago, Basketball Star Jason Collins covered Sports Illustrated magazine as The Gay Athlete. It seemed as though the the urban community didn’t express as much outrage when the article was released. Maybe we didn’t care…or maybe we just didn’t want to pay attention to it.

And just this month, Darren Young became the first openly gay professional wrestler! That’s major! From singers…to ballers…to WWE stars…BUT WHAT ABOUT HIP-HOP!??? Oh, you knew it was coming!

Over the weekend, musical artist Macklemore won for Best Video with a Social Message at the 2013 VMA’s. His song “Same Love” toys with the concept of whether or not Hip Hop accepts gay listeners.

Check out the video and his live performance with Jennifer Hudson below.

So the questions remain: Is Gay the New Black? Does Hip Hop Accept Gay Fans?

WEIGH IN with your thoughts! Let us know! Take the poll.

And in the words of Dr. MLK Jr.: I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: “We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal.”
