Police say this man was involved in a SWAT standoff in Atascocita

(ATASCOCITA, TX) — A house fire in Atascocita led to a four-hour SWAT standoff.

Firefighters responded to a fire at a home in the 20200 block of Atascocita Lake around 7:20 p.m. Monday. When they arrived, they found a pile of clothes on fire inside a man and woman’s home.

They ended up retreating from the house and calling police after becoming suspicious that the woman was being held there against her will.

Houston Police Department officers arrived a short time later and reportedly were told there were weapons inside the house. The man allegedly refused to allow the woman to leave, so a SWAT team was called.

The woman walked out on her own at around 10:30 p.m.; her husband surrendered nearly an hour later and was taken into medical custody.

It’s unclear whether charges will be filed.
