This past Sunday, Essence magazine hosted their 2nd annual Street Style Awards and to celebrate (and help kick off NYFW), they threw a fabulous block party in Dumbo, Brooklyn.
With amazing music, delicious food and, of course, fabulous fashion, the event was a great way to spend the day.
HelloBeautiful joined two of our favorite bloggers, Sunita V. and Tiffany Battle of The Werk Place to help take the already stylish attendees to the next level. With a little help from our friends at Chevy, TeamBeautiful spent the day getting #ChevyChic.
Check out our favorite moments from the day:
The Food:
While there were plenty of local restaurants with amazing eats, the Essence-curated food trucks boasted something for everyone to choose from. But the hit of the day was define a fresh pineapple drink stand, which gave attendees the ultimate toast to summer’s farewell. The line wrapped around the corner, but it was worth the wait. So much so that those of us who missed out on it are still salty about it (*ahem* that would be me).
The Music:
Aside from the fabulous fashion, the music was definitely what made the party. DJs Olivia Dope and Tiff McFierce spun the latest hits all day long, with the archway at Water Street and Anchorage Place becoming a giant dance floor. But the musical highlight was a performance from Andra Day, who somehow managed to sound EVEN better live than she does on her amazing tracks (who knew that was possible), and the incredible Jazmine Sullivan, who shut it down!
The Fashion:
The fashion was, to put it simply, incredible. New Yorkers came dressed to the nines in funky, edgy and glam fashions that put some of NYFW’s best street style to shame. While Andra Day performed, attendees were treated to a fashion show with up and coming designers. Even cooler was the fact that real women got to work that runway, making it a truly unique experience.
But our favorite part, of course, was TeamBeautiful’s time getting ChevyChic with the ladies at the party. We had such a blast adding new accessories to compliment the beautiful fashionistas’ looks. Check out full coverage of that here.
The Awards:
After the block party, fashion honorees like Tracee Ellis Ross, Gabrielle Union and June Ambrose joined top bloggers and editors to celebrate the year in fabulous fashion. In addition to celebrities and stylists, some of the game’s top influencers, like the bloggers behind Girls Off Fifth and photographer Tamu McPherson were also honored.

We don't have to tell you how much we love our FLOTUS, or how much we swoon over her who and what she's wearing. We've followed her every fashionable move since the Obamas entered the White House. In celebration of Michelle Obama's impeccable style, here are some of her most memorable looks she's ever rocked, beginning with this weekend's CBCF look. Check it out.
