Denise LaSalle, the R&B singer and songwriter with hits such as “Trapped By A Thing Called Love” back in 1971 has died. She was 78.

LaSalle passed in Jackson, Tennessee, surrounded by family according to a family friend. She had suffered health issues in recent months that resulted inn the amputation of her right left after she suffered a fall.

Besides “Trapped By A Thing Called Love,” LaSalle is also known for the song “Now Run And Tell That.” She recorded a string of successful singles in the 1970s and 1980s and producer Lawrence “Boo” Mitchell says she had a very unique voice.

Born Ora Denise Allen in Sidon Mississippi, she took LaSalle as a stage name after she moved to Chicago in her early teens and began singing R&B.

LaSalle was featured on President Obama’s 2016 summer playlist.
