About Tom Joyner

There are a few young soul singers that you can still count on for romantic, sensitive music with live instrumentation and gorgeous lyrical content. Dwele is one of those singers. The Detroit native may be a little under the radar, but if you’ve heard his music, you know that’s just an oversight. He’s put out five CD’s in the last 12 years, so somebody’s listening.

Tim Greene, a popular hip hop filmmaker known for a variety of films and finding new acts, including Rapping Granny and the movie "Lil Homeez," has provided free actor/filmmaker workshops in Los Angeles, Philadelphia and New York and Washington, D.C. At a recent event at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Library in Washington, Greene described for his audience, young and old alike, about the good, the bad and the ugly of the movie industry and dispensed advice to aspiring actors to keep handy proper head shots, business cards containing their photos, at least 10 resumes and reels with samples of their work.

Chris Tucker remains in that limbo of people who have once been very, very famous and then for reasons unknown to them or the public fall out of the public eye. It’s nothing specific that Tucker did or didn’t do. He didn’t beat up a girlfriend or go to jail or appear on reality TV

The country of Uganda has placed a gold medal in the 2012 Olympics for the first time since 1972. Olympic athlete Stephen Kiprotich won the gold in the men’s marathon. While Uganda competed and won a medal in the Atlanta games, they hadn’t had a gold to call their own in 40 years.

Chris Tucker remains in that limbo of people who have once been very, very famous and then for reasons unknown to them or the public fall out of the public eye. It’s nothing specific that Tucker did or didn’t do. He didn’t beat up a girlfriend or go to jail or appear on reality TV. But maybe that’s the problem. Tucker, who was both comedian and cult figure after his role as Smokey in the first “Friday” movie and after his three “Rush Hour” movies with Jackie Chan, was looking to do more quality work. But somehow, after the huge successes of those roles, more challenging roles never came. So he took the time out to raise his teenage son and waited for another opportunity. He hopped inside the 'Red Velvet Cake' studio to chill with the Fly Jock Tom Joyner and crew this morning talk about why he came back, the IRS problems he has had over the years, possibly another upcoming movie with action actor Jackie Chan and also he gives his thoughts on the Jackson family and his relationship with one of his best buddies, the late Michael Jackson. He's currently on tour and if you're going out of town, check him out in Dallas tonight at 8pm at the Verizon Theater at Grand Prairie. Never a dull moment with Chris, we're glad he is back on stage, check out the audio!

The gold medals have been handed out and the Olympics are over, but you can still see the champions on TV. Swimmer Ryan Lochte has made his interest in reality TV known and has already booked a guest appearance on “Beverly Hills 90210.” Other athletes are making the talk show circuit this week.

It’s difficult to step into an iconic role that so many people hold dear. That was what British-born actress Carmen Ejogo had to do when she was cast as “Sister” in the remake of the 1976 movie “Sparkle.” Ejogo reprises the role made famous by Lonette McKee, who plays lead character Sparkle’s troubled oldest sister.

Besides being a religious leader, anyone who follows Bishop T.D. Jakes knows he continuously gives back to the community in more ways than one. One of those ways is entertainment and movies. The most anticipated movie of the summer, 'Sparkle' will be in theaters tomorrow and Bishop was one of the major producers of the film. He called the TJMS this morning to talk to the Fly Jock Tom Joyner and crew about why he chose not to make a cameo appearance in the film, he definitely speaks about the late Whitney Houston, he spoke about the emergence of singer/actress Jordin Sparks and how she handled her fist major motion picture with professionalism and even revealed that the late songstress Aaliyah was initially coined to play the role that Jordin Sparks played. Everything the Bishop has his hands on comes out to be successful and we can't see any reason why 'Sparkle' will be any different. Check out the interview and make sure you see the movie for yourself.

According to the AP, in the very beginning Joe Jackson was so upset about his legendary son Michael Jackson's death that he filed a wrongful death lawsuit. Now 3 years later? He's taking it all back. Wonder what happened to make Joe change his stance?

The remake of “Sparkle” heads into theaters on Friday. The new version was a pet project for the late Whitney Houston, who loved the original 1976 movie it was based on. While we can appreciate the performances of new cast members Houston, Carmen Ejogo, Jordin Sparks, Tika Sumpter, Derek Luke and Mike Epps, the original cast was memorable as well. We wanted to catch up with some of the stars of the first “Sparkle” to see what they’re up to these days. Read on.
