One of the first Black women to serve in the Army and was the oldest female veteran at age 108.

13. HARRIET TUBMAN

The American abolitionist and humanitarian led hundreds of enslaved people to freedom.

14. BIDDY MASON

Born into slavery and sued for her freedom, she became one of the richest people in Los Angeles. She was an African-American nurse and a Californian real estate entrepreneur and philanthropist. She was also the founder of the First African Methodist Episcopal Church.

15. PATRICIA ROBERTS

The first African-American woman to hold a cabinet position (United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, and United States Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare). It was under the Jimmy Carter administration.
