*World number one Serena Williams has dropped out of next week’s Pan Pacific Open in Japan due to the same injury that kept her out of the US Open earlier this month.
As previously reported, Williams cut her foot on broken glass at a restaurant shortly after winning her fourth Wimbledon crown in July. Pan Pacific organizers said the 13-time Grand Slam winner had not fully recovered after an operation on the injury.
