The eastbound lanes of the North Loop reopened Wednesday morning after a violent crash left one person dead.

The Houston Police Department stated that the crash occurred around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday near the exit for Ella.

According to authorities, a gray Infiniti sedan stalled in the middle of the freeway with no lights. The driver of an oncoming black Dodge Charger did not see the car and slammed into the back of it.

The impact was so forceful that the Infiniti spun around and the Dodge and managed to hit it again from the front.

The driver in the sedan died at the scene and a female passenger was sent to the hospital in serious but stable condition.

The woman behind the wheel of the Charger was not hurt. The North Loop was reopened Wednesday just in time for the day’s rush hour commuters. Police continue to investigate the accident.
