A woman who has waited 10 years to receive her deceased husband’s heart from the former Christus St. Catherine Hospital finally got her wish recently.  Now she says an independent laboratory does not know if the remains she’s received are human.

Ten years ago, Jerry Carswell was admitted to Christus St. Catherine Hospital in Katy for a kidney stone, then he died unexpectedly.  Carswell says the hospital promised a full-independent autopsy to determine how her husband died. Instead, the autopsy was done by a pathologist with strong ties to Christus.  A cause of death was never determined.

She sued and won a two-million dollar judgment for fraud.  The judgment has never been paid.  It’s still being appealed by the hospital.

After all she’s been through, Linda Carswell tells us now she has an additional quandary.

“I’ve purchased an urn in anticipation for burying Jerry’s heart at his grave,” Carswell said. “If it’s not Jerry’s heart, then we would be essentially desecrating his grave.”
