HPD: Employee Buys $90K Car With Stolen Company Check
(HOUSTON) — An employee allegedly took off running after her manager confronted her about a stolen check written out for $50,000.
Ciody Reyes Carrasco, 22, allegedly broke into her employer’s locked asset area and stole three company checks, according to the Houston Police Department.
Vice President of Savannah Home Builders, Karla Nieves, told police she was contacted by the president of her bank verifying a transaction to Global Motorcars of Houston of $50,000. Nieves, her husband, father and mother are the only authorized signers on the account.
Global Motorcars of Houston confirmed Carrasco purchased a $90,000 black 2014 Nissan GTR. She told the dealership her manager would pay the remaining $30,000 balance with two more company checks later in the week.
Nieves said she confronted Carrasco about the transaction, but Carrasco took off running out of the business and got into the Nissan GTR. Nieves also said that, when Carrasco was leaving in the vehicle, she got close to hitting her. Nieves believes it was on purpose.
HPD investigated the case and found visual evidence on Facebook. Officers were able to locate Carrasco’s Facebook page and identify the black Nissan GTR with the same paper plates in a picture that was posted. The car was in front her Houston home.
Officers then spoke to manager of the dealership, who said he had her personal information from the auto sale and had kept contact with Carrasco.
Carrasco confirmed she would bring the car back to the dealership.
