Diddy has purchased a $21.1 million piece of artwork. According to Rap-Up, the mogul has been revealed as the buyer of “Past Times,” a painting by Chicago artist Kerry James Marshall, which has a narrative centered on black experiences. Sotheby’s reports that there was a lot of speculation regarding who placed the winning bid, which was the largest amount paid for the work of a living African-American artist. On Thursday (May 17th), Marshall’s gallerist and dealer, Jack Shainman, told The New York Times that Diddy was the buyer. He said, “I know that this work has found a home in a collection with purpose and an eye toward preserving legacy — that of Sean Combs, and that means a lot.”
