HOUSTON—Some early shoppers waiting in line for Black Friday specials at Best Buy had to deal with more than just the crowds when wreckers started towing their cars.

It happened around 11 p.m. at the Best Buy on Beechnut and the Southwest Freeway.

The shoppers, who were lined up for the store’s 4:30 a.m. opening, had parked in the Best Buy lot.

Apparently, two wrecker drivers who contract with the shopping center were there, and they started towing the shoppers’ cars.

“They just came in, grabbed the cars and left. They didn’t even check to make sure it wasn’t a customer,” shopper Nadia Pereria said.

The wreckers said they thought the shoppers were headed to a nearby night club rather than a store in the shopping center.

They towed about 12 cars before the people in line called police.

Officers stopped the wrecker drivers and had them return the cars.
