From CNN: Some Americans visiting or working in Haiti have not been heard from since Tuesday’s earthquake, but loved ones back home are trying to remain optimistic as good reports come in from others.

January 12, 2009 the island nation of Haiti, was slammed by a magnitude 7.0 earthquake, its most severe in 200 years. The epicenter of the quake was approximately 10 miles south of Port-au-Prince, the country’s capital and home to almost 2 million people. The city, including communications and transport infrastructure, is said to have suffered “massive damage.” According to Associated Press, the capital is largely destroyed, with widespread loss of life predicted.
