TV Guide’s popular Cheers & Jeers section gave pop star Jason Derulo a big ol’ “Jeer” for his performance of “Georgia on My Mind” this week on “Dancing With the Stars.”

He’s no Ray Charles, but TV Guide’s Bruce Fretts expected a better take on the classic than what Derulo delivered. He wrote in Thursday’s column:

The 21-year-old pop footnote behind such instantly forgettable trifles as “Whatcha Say” and “In My Head” had the gall to cover “Georgia on My Mind” on Dancing With the Stars: The Results. The classic tune, cowritten by Hoagy Carmichael and memorably recorded by Ray Charles and Willie Nelson, among others, was way out of his limited range, as he proved by attempting to hit several “notes” that only dogs could hear. (That sound you heard, by the way, was Ray Charles shaking a tailfeather in his grave.)

DWTS didn’t help matters by having a pair of random, anonymous hoofers do a cornball, faux-balletic routine to the song — guess none of the show’s pros wanted to be associated with such a travesty. The result was the most horrifying scene featuring somebody named Jason since the last Friday the 13th flick.

You be the judge…
