Houston city council members are scheduled to discuss whether or not to bring international flights to Hobby Airport Tuesday morning. Southwest Airlines has been lobbying to offer travelers international flights out of Houston Hobby Airport. The proposed flights, however have been met with opposition.

United Airlines believes that if Southwest Airlines is to fly internationally out of Houston Hobby, it will cost Hobby Airport thousands of jobs. Southwest refutes the claims made by United Airlines, stating that the move will generate revenue in an area that needs it.

Scheduled community meetings will allow the public to weigh in on the plan and folks will be able to share what they think international flights out of Hobby will mean for Houston-ara residents as well as Houston’s economy. Tuesday’s city council hearing will allow the city leaders another chance to consider whether Southwest’s request to offer international flights out of Hobby is a reasonable one.

Tuesday’s meeting is at city council chambers and begins at 9:00 A.M. Presentations are also slated at that time by a consultant group for the city, Southwest Airlines and United Airlines. Public comment will also follow.
