With “back to school” time upon us, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office wants motorists to know that their Motorcycle Unit will be out at various school zones throughout the county beginning on Monday, August 27 ensuring motorists are obeying speed limits.

The HCSO details their school zone operations: “With the start of the school year at many school districts throughout the county, deputies will also be reminding drivers to keep their eyes on the road and not on their cell phones. If you want an ‘F,’ text and drive in the vicinity of a school. (It’s illegal in some municipalities). Remember, there is no text message that is more important than a LIFE!”

The HCSO also wants to remind drivers that school buses loading and unloading zones are clearly marked and that yielding to pedestrians on the crosswalks is apart of following the law.

“Traffic patterns change abruptly within many neighborhoods so plan accordingly and practice patience,” adds the HCSO.
