Tourists who were walking along the beach Sunday, discovered the body of a Houston woman who drowned in Galveston Bay.

The Galveston Beach Patrol stated that 49-year-old Jutina Silbey was reported missing early Sunday after a night of drinking at an island bar.

Additional reports indicate that Silbey, her niece and some friends decided to cross the street and go swimming after the bar closed. Everyone returned to the shore except Silbey. Then, her niece reportedly called 911.

The U.S. Coast Guard and other search crews began searching for the woman around 3:30am Sunday morning. Tourists found her body on a rock groin near 37th Street around 11:00 a.m. Sunday.

Officers are calling the death an accidental drowning and believe Silbey became caught in the rip current and was pulled toward the rocks.
