Amor “Lilman’ Arteaga of Flatbush, Brooklyn had been working on the song and the video most of the fall. But, in the wake of the shooting, he and his father, Juan Arteaga, worked with the production company to get the video posted as soon as possible and to include a photo of the school.

“We felt it was the right thing to do. He’s a child who is talking about stopping gun violence. And so many little kids were affected by this,” Juan told the New York Daily News. “We live in a community where people doing (shootings) is the norm.”
Last Friday, 20-year-old Adam Lanza shot 26 people dead in Newtown, Conn., including 20 elementary school children. The Connecticut tragedy ranks only behind the Virginia Tech shootings that left 33 people dead in 2007. A robust debate around gun reform has sparked discussions ranging from the need of civilians to carry firearms to what many feel is the National Rifle Association’s control over Republican politicians in Washington D.C.
New York City Mayor Micheal Bloomberg, a staunch anti-gun advocate, called for a plan to reduce gun violence nationwide at a press conference on Monday. It is a call that certainly resonates with Amor. He told The News that, just last week, the sound of gunfire forced him to drop to the floor of his living room. “I see a lot of gun violence in my neighborhood,” he said.
New York City Councilman Jumaane Williams (D-East Flatbush) told The News that he puzzled that the gun debate is still unresolved, given the rate of violence that is claiming young lives.
“Little kids are being shot. And this kid is doing this video,” Williams said. “I am flabbergasted that we have to struggle to fix this.”
