Hard to believe there are only two weekends left in this year, so we’d better plan wisely. News 92 FM’s Martha Martinez has this weekend’s preview:

Theater under the stars enthralls young and old alike with Cathy Rigbee starring in “Peter Pan” through Sunday.

At Jones Hall, the Houston symphony presents Handel’s “Messiah” with performances Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Alley Theater has dual holiday hits, with the very traditional Dicken’s “Christmas Carol” on the Hubbard stage through Monday.  A slightly edgier take on the season comes from David Sedaris’ wickedly witty “Santaland Diaries” on the Alley’s Neuhaus stage thru December 30.

The Houston Ballet’s spectacular presentation of the “Nutcracker” through December 30, with Christmas day off.

Tonight through Saturday at McGonigel’s Mucky Duck, it’s Martin Burniston’s 22nd annual Christmas sing along and a deliciously British dinner.

Tonight at the House of Blues, Better Than Ezra and Papa Grows Funk.  Friday, Kevin Fowler’s at Mo’s place in Katy and Roger Creager is at BigTexasDance Hall and Saloon in spring. Also Friday night, Dwight Yoakum brings his rockin’ country show to the Houston arena theater.

Los Lonely Boys and Alejandro Escovedo are at the House of Blues Saturday night. Also Saturday, Charlie Robison is at the Firehouse Saloon and Kingston Trio take the stage at Galveston’s grand opera house.

Finally, to mark doomsday tomorrow, come out tonight to the Boneyard “End of the World” bash from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m at The Boneyard Drinkery, Washington avenue at Old Katy road.

There’s plenty of dog-friendly indoor and outdoor seating and one hundred percent of the funds raised go to benefit friends of BARC.
