A new study has found that African Americans use Twitter and Instagram and purchase smart phones more than any other demographic. According to USA Today, the study — which was done by the Pew Research Center’s Internet and American Life Project, conducted phone interviews with 1,800 respondents. Among black Internet users, 26% use Twitter — in comparison to 14% of whites and 19% of Hispanics. This is an increase from 18 percent of black Internet users were using Twitter in 2011.
As for Instagram, blacks, at 23%, also outnumbered Hispanics’18% and whites 11%.
While blacks love using Twitter and Instagram, white women under age 50 are drawn to Pintrest.
According to a March 2012 Nielsen study, 54.4% of black phone owners and 57.3% of Hispanic phone owners own smartphones vs. 44.7% for whites. (USA Today)
