Robin Thicke‘s “Blurred Lines” featuring Pharrell and T.I.is well on its way to becoming the year’s biggest hit. The song has been Number One on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for seven weeks and recently broke the radio audience record when it reached 242 million listeners. The previous mark was 188 million. The song also broke this year’s single week download record during the week of June 23rd with 428,000 downloads.

“Blurred Lines” has also hit Number One in 80 countries and is currently triple platinum.

On Tuesday, July 30th, Thicke performed the song as part of the Today Show‘s summer concert series. During a break he addressed the controversy surrounding the lyrics with host Matt Lauer. He said, “When we made the song we had nothing but the most respect for women . . . Sometimes the lyrics can get misconstrued when you’re just trying to put people on the dance floor and have a good time. But we had no idea it would stir this much controversy . . . We only had the best intentions.”  (Pulse of Radio)
