Red Lobster said it was “standard procedure” to suspend an employee with pay after one of her receipts made its way onto a social network. But, it’s what was on that receipt–and the company’s subsequent reaction–that has many angry with that decision.

According to AddictingInfo.org, server Christina Jenkins was shocked to find a racist note scrawled on the receipt for her Franklin, Tenn., restaurant this weekend, with the words “None, Ni**er” written on the receipt in lieu of a tip. Her father posted the receipt on Facebook to comment about the need to overcome bigotry and racism.

Mike Bernstein, a spokesman for the Darden restaurant, said it was a serious situation:

This kind of language is completely disgusting and has no place in our restaurant or anywhere else, and we are committed to getting to the bottom of what happened as quickly as possible.

Hope Christina gets back to work quickly!

A fundraiser was launched called ‘Tips for Tori’ to help the young lady recoup any lost tips while she’s out–including the one the racist restaurant guests failed to leave.
