According to Pulse of Radio, the United States Postal Service wants to increase the price of a stamp by three-cents.

The Postal Service is seeking a three-cent increase in the price of a first-class stamp to 49 cents, asking that Postal Regulatory Commission yesterday (September 25th) to approve it. Mickey Barnett, the chairman of the postal Board of Governors, cited the, quote, “precarious financial condition” of the Postal Service, which expects to lose $6 billion this year, and the uncertain outlook for postal overhaul legislation from Congress. The Postal Service has been hammered financially by pension funding legislation.

Why not make the stamp a flat $.50?  We’re just saying.
