Even though the government is shutdown, that didn’t stop people from signing up for Obamacare.  According to Pulse of Radio,

While congressional Republicans were engaged in the government shutdown impasse yesterday (October 1st) over their effort to defund or delay the Affordable Care Act, enrollment under the health care law began, but millions of Americans who tried to get on the health exchange websites for information or to sign up were unable to, as the sites were overwhelmed by the number of people trying to access them. President Obama spun those overwhelmed websites as a positive yesterday “That gives you a sense of how important this is to millions of Americans around the country. And that’s a good thing. And we’re going to be speeding things up in the next few hours to handle all this demand that exceeds anything that we had expected.” There were also glitches on the websites for people who could get in, such as a a problem with a security question on users’ accounts in the 36 states where the federal government is running the marketplaces, preventing many from enrolling. Obama administration officials, who’d been emphasizing there would be initial glitches, said they were pleased with the strong consumer interest, with some three million people visiting the healthcare.gov website yesterday.

Americans have until March 31st, 2014 to sign up.
