Food stamps, known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), feed 1 in 7 Americans and cost almost $80 billion a year, twice what it cost five years ago. It’s said that the program has spiraled out of control and as the economy struggles the costs are not sustainable.. So its no surprise that Conservatives would like to cut food stamps in an effort to save money, but doctors say not only will the move not save lives, but it will also cost in the long run, resulting in higher health care costs, the neediest people will not go hungry.
