HFD Truck(HOUSTON) — Sources within the Houston Fire Department tell News 92 FM there were more brownouts Saturday.

One of the two fire engines taken out of service is Engine 6, which was first to respond to the 5-alarm fire in the Montrose area this past Tuesday.  It was also on the scene of Wednesday’s church fire in The Heights.

The Latest News Headlines, Traffic and Weather:

The other unit out of service is out of Fire Station 45, located at 4910 N. McCarty.   You may recall that Engine 45 was first in on a deadly mid-rise fire on the North Loop near Wallisville Road in March 2007.  Its crew and others were instrumental in the rescue of  several people from the burning six-story structure.

Three people died in that fire. Several others, including three firefighters, were injured.

Seven ambulance units remain out of service as well, including ambulances 40, 47, 5, 12, 80, 56 and medic 36.

The brownouts are part of a cost-saving plan in effect until the end of the fiscal year, June 30, as the department deals with an overtime problem caused by a staffing shortage.
