(GALVESTON, TX) — Just in time for Easter, we have a story of resurrection on Galveston Island.

St. Mary’s Cathedral Basilica in Galveston, known as the “Mother Cathedral of Texas,” was heavily damaged by Hurricane Ike nearly six years ago. Extensive repairs are completed, and Father E.J. Stein says the church will open Easter Sunday with a special mass given by Cardinal Daniel DiNardo.

Stein is the new pastor at St. Mary’s.

“All of this has come together with the goodwill and talent of so many people, and it is all coming to life right at this time of Easter, when we celebrate how the Lord brought everything to life with his resurrection,” Stein said.
