Morton Ranch High School in Katy ISD (Dennis Spellman, NEWS 92 FM)

(KATY, TX) — A high school teacher and coach in Katy Independent School District has resigned over allegations he had an inappropriate relationship with a female student.

The former Morton Ranch High School teacher has not been charged, so we will not identify him, but the school district confirms that he resigned Monday.

He was known for calling girls things like “babe,” but the kids liked him, so it never got him into trouble, according to one 16-year-old sophomore.

“I don’t think they did because he was really good looking, and that’s why they didn’t mind calling him that,” the student said.

Katy ISD released the following statement:

Katy ISD Police is currently investigating allegations brought forth against a Morton Ranch High School teacher for engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a student.  This investigation was prompted by an anonymous letter delivered to a Morton Ranch High School administrator on Thursday, May 15 alleging an improper relationship between the former teacher and a student.  The teacher under investigation resigned Monday, May 19 effective immediately.  At this time, investigators do not believe that the former teacher’s alleged actions involved any other students.  The District take these kinds of allegations very seriously and is fully cooperating with law enforcement. At Katy ISD providing a safe and secure learning environment is and will continue to be a top priority.
