(HOUSTON) — The launch of a public Wi-Fi network for greater Houston becomes a reality Tuesday.

Comcast is rolling out an important feature for its wireless broadband users.

“We’re going to flip the switch and 50,000 customers will have these Wi-Fi hotspots enabled,” Michael Bybee, Comcast senior manager of public relations, said.

The hotspots are part of a two-year long campaign to enable 150,000 hotspots, Bybee said.

“Conroe to Galveston, from beyond Katy, all the way to the Bay area, so anywhere in between that entire greater Houston area,” he says.

Enabled home Wi-Fi routers will allow anyone with a Comcast account to log in once, and have Wi-Fi access anywhere you go where there’s Comcast service.

“We’re all on devices these days, so it’s a way to enable you friends and family to take advantage of that.”
