(HOUSTON) – Pastor Rudy Rasmus takes pride in his downtown family which includes folks from all walks of life, from the very poor to international icon and Houston native Beyonce Knowles.

“What we’re saying is there are literally no borders or boundaries that determine whether or not a person can be part of our extended family here,” Rasmus told our news gathering partner, KHOU 11.

Rasmus presided over Beyonce’s 2008 wedding to rapper Jay Z. There have been rumors of marriage problems, and family disputes, such as when video of an elevator altercation between Beyonce’s sister Solange and Jay Z was made public.

According to KHOU, Rasmus said he doesn’t follow the tabloids. “And I validate my information with a conversation with the individual,” he said.

He also said it’s important to separate the entertainer from the person. It’s part of the message of his new book, “Love Period. When All Else Fails.”

Rasmus said Beyonce and her family have donated millions to the church to help house the homeless and feed the poor.

“She’s an incredible human being. Has an incredible heart and has been extremely helpful in our mission and our ministry here.”

It’s a ministry Beyonce has been a part of since she was just a young girl.

“She used to sing right here,” said Rasmus. “I don’t remember the song but I do remember she had long braids, tennis shoes and jeans on. A far cry from what she is today.”

Rasmus believes today Beyonce embodies the spirit of the book he hopes touches the world.
