(HOUSTON) — One of Houston’s most iconic theaters is about to get a major face lift.
Alley Theatre will break ground on its first major renovation Tuesday since the theater’s downtown opening in 1968.
Roger Plank, Alley Theatre Capital Campaign co-chair, will join artistic directory Gregory Boyd, managing director Dean R. Gladden, chairman emeritus Meredith Long, and donors to the theater Tuesday morning to begin construction.
As construction gets under way, the Alley’s seasoned company of artists are in preparations for its 2014-2015 season at the University of Houston.
Theater patrons will enjoy a full season of favorites on UH’s Lyndall Finley Wortham Theatre stage, including Horton Foote’s “The Old Friends,” “Dracula: The Original Vampire Play,” “Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story of Christmas,” William Shakespeare’s “As You Like It,” Arthur Miller’s “All My Sons,” “Kneehigh’s Tristan & Yseult,” “George Gershwin Alone,” and “The Foreigner.”
A grand re-opening of the renovated Alley Theatre is slated for October 2015.
