(LEAGUE CITY, TX) — The City of League City passed a resolution Tuesday night, saying the city will not cooperate with any federal request to house immigrant children who are in the country illegally.
The League City council voted 6-2 to adopt the resolution. It refuses any request from the federal government to set up detention or processing centers there, citing unspecified “health concerns.”

Emotions ran high on both sides before and after the vote, with protesters of all nationalities shouting “Shame on you!” outside city hall after the resolution passed.
Earlier Tuesday, a Houston school district spokeswoman said federal officials toured a vacant middle school as a possible site to house immigrant children caught crossing the border. District spokeswoman Sheleah Reed said the visit to Terrell Middle School is a preliminary step in case federal officials want a local shelter for immigrant children.

A similar measure was passed by Galveston County commissioners Tuesday afternoon.
