Three Killed, Seven Injured In Movie Theater Shooting In Lafayette

A gunman opened fire in a Lafayette, LA movie theater Thursday evening. John Russell Houser, 59, is being labeled as a “drifter” and officials say he intended to run from the scene of the shooting before dying of his own wounds as a result of the massacre. Three are dead and nine are injured from the attack. In response to the shooting, Governor Bobby Jindal said: “This is an awful night for Lafayette. This is an awful night for Louisiana. This is an awful night for the United States.” Read more at NBC News.

Obama Expresses His Frustration On Shooting Violence, Highlights Need For “Common-Sense” Gun Control

Shortly before the Louisiana shooting, President Barack Obama coincidentally spoke out on the need for stricter gun control laws in an interview with BBC News. In the interview, Obama said: “If you look at the number of Americans killed since 9/11 by terrorism, it’s less than 100. If you look at the number that have been killed by gun violence, it’s in the tens of thousands.” Obama has often mused on this issue, saying that being unable to enact more rigid gun control has been his biggest frustration as president. Hillary Clinton Is Facing A Criminal Investigation After Misusing Her Personal Email Account

Two officials have made a special request to the Justice Department for it to conduct a criminal investigation on Hillary Clinton’s alleged misuse of her personal email account with private government data. The transgression occurred during her role as secretary of state. This probe was requested after the State Department gave notice on June 29 that Clinton’s account contained scores of possibly confidential email addresses. Read more at the New York Times.

Police Brutality Death Of Darrius Stewart Being Probed, Killer Cop Had Criminal History

It has been announced by local police that teen Darrius Stewart was shot and killed by Memphis Officer Connor Schilling. Schilling, who has been on the Memphis police force since 2012, is now on leave during the investigation on Stewart’s death. Stewart was a passenger in the car that Schilling stopped for a traffic violation on Friday night. Things quickly escalated to Schilling pulling out his gun to shoot Stewart by his squad car. Schilling has a criminal history of his own. Not only was Schilling arrested and suspended for a DUI last year, but he also was previously dismissed from another excessive/unnecessary force case in 2013. Read more at the Huffington Post.
