As an educator, I see firsthand daily how children are affected by the scarcity of black father’s in our community. This is why I would like to nominate my brother chef Michael Vaughn because he rocks!
Our mother was a single parent, raised 8 children in one of the toughest housing projects on Chicago far south side. We are an extremely close net family; however, we had many tragedies (losing our dad, three brothers, two nephews, numerous uncles and those are just the males in our family). My baby brother (Michael) is the only remaining male in our immediate family. At times he is extremely sad; however, through it all he has remained our family’s pillar of strength.
My brother worked two jobs 16 hours a day tirelessly for years as a chef, to provide for his only daughter. He went to everything from parent-teacher conferences to hair appointments. Michael prepared three meals a day for his daughter, bought her first car and gave her the wedding of her dreams last year. Now that his daughter is married with 2 1/2 children of her own. Paw-paw is still grinding, working two jobs (like an energized bunny) to shower his grandchildren with gifts.
Now, we are facing yet another challenge in our family with my mom’s health. My brother continues step up for mom and all of us
Tom, Michael is a die-hard Chicago Bears fan! He looked at some Chicago bears jerseys on numerous occasions; however, they are just too expensive. I would love for him to attend a Chicago Bears game wearing a Chicago Bears jersey. Thank you for all you do for our black men.
