Comedian Quincy Jones‘ story is quite remarkable. He was diagnosed with Cancer in 2015 and since then has become a celebrity in his own right, after a Kickstarter campaign to achieve his dream of starring in a stand-up comedy special raised a significant amount of money. With the help of Ellen, his dream came true and now the 32-year-old is headed to HBO.

He talks to the Tom Joyner Morning Show about his comedy special, Quincy Jones: Burning the Light

How he’s doing a year after being diagnosed:

“I was diagnosed July 3rd of last year and been doing regular life since. It’s the eve of my HBO special so I’m doing great.”

What to expect from his show:

“I debated for a while whether I was going to talk about the Cancer, because I didn’t want to make it a Cancer special. So I talk about love, dating and police brutality.”

Quincy Jones: Burning the Light premieres June 2nd on HBO.
