Get your Santa costume and jingle bells ready because The Salvation Army of Greater Houston’s Christmas In July 5K & Kids K is coming to town!

The fun run will take place on Saturday, July 9th, 2016 at The Salvation Army Greater Houston Area Command, located at 1500 Austin Street in Downtown Houston. Race Day registration will open at 6 a.m., giving runners time to stretch, take group photos with their Holly Jolly team, and check out the event sponsors. The 5K will begin at 7 a.m. and will be followed by the awards ceremony. The Fa La La La Kids K will start at 9 a.m. After the run, finishers and family members can celebrate their accomplishments at the post-race party which will be complete with holiday décor and treats. A few highlights of the post-race party: Bon Jour will be offering free breakfast tacos. VERTS will be distributing free food samples, and Topgolf will be giving away prizes through their “Wheel of Fun!” The run is slated to be an annual event.

“The Salvation Army spreads hope and joy throughout the year but is most visible during the holiday season thanks to our iconic red kettles,” said Major Chris Flanagan, Salvation Army Area Commander. “With this new fun run, we are hoping to spread the Christmas joy during a time when donations are low. This fundraising event gives our community another opportunity to financially support our programs and services and celebrate Christmas twice a year!”

The Family 5K and Kids K makes this event fun for the whole family. Competitive runners are invited to join the Timed 5K, where we will be awarding awards to the top 3 winners in each 10-year age group. Participants are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite holiday character.

The Timed 5K is $25, the Family 5K is $20, and the Kids K is $15. Participants can register online before July 7th. Every 5K registration gets a 2016 Christmas in July 5K race bib, a tee, finisher’s medal, and entry into the post-race party. Registration is available online until 6 PM on July 8th, 2016. Race registration will increase on race day.

Proceeds will benefit the programs and services offered year-round at The Salvation Army of Greater Houston, which include four homeless shelters, six corps community centers, two social services offices, two senior affordable living apartment complexes, a college preparatory program, and more.

The Salvation Army would like to thank their sponsors: Energy Transfer Partners, Constellation Energy, Excel Midstream Solutions, Top Golf, KHOU, KLove Air1, KSBJ, LAM Parking, Mega Media, The Box 97.0, Mitscoots, Randalls, Bon Jour, Ugly Christmas Sweater, SMA Solutions, Thomas Printworks, and ACF Awards.
