Terrorism hit Iraq’s capital again this month with a suicide bomber killing at least 21 in Baghdad on Sunday. According to CNN, a suicide bomber detonated an explosive vest near a security checkpoint in northwest Baghdad that was also a Shia district.

ISIS has taken responsibility for the attack that also injured more than 35 others. In an online statement, the radicalized terrorist group wrote saying it targeted a gathering of security forces and Shiite militia members, the Daily Mail wrote.

This newest attack comes weeks after a suicide truck bomb plowed into a busy shopping district killing almost 300 people during the holy month of Ramadan in the Karrada district of Baghdad. While it seems like every week there is a new global terror attack, CNN points out that doesn’t mean ISIS is getting more powerful. In reality, the terror group is losing more and more territory, but that they still remain deadly.

This is a developing story. We will provide updates as they become available.
