In her memoir that is due out this month, Taraji P. Henson revealed that her late ex Mark was abusive towards her — and it was because he felt inferior to her. She recalled,
“You’re better than me. You need to leave me alone.”
The couple broke up and Mark went on to have two children with other women. They reunited in the 90s when she was at Howard University studying theater. After she got pregnant with their son Marcell, she said things started going downhill. One night they had a huge fight that turned physical. She said,
“The next thing I knew, Mark’s balled-up fist was coming straight for my face. I fell onto the bed crying and holding my mouth; blood seeped off my lips and across my teeth. Droplets splashed across my shoes … slowly creeping into the fibers of my suede boots.” After she saw blood, she said she screamed to him, “This is over! Get yours— and get out! With that separation, my forever man, my first love, was no more.”
