Sarah Breedlove, better known as Madam C. J. Walker, was one of the pioneers in Black entrepreneurship and the first Black millionaire in America. She was also a political and social activist as well as a philanthropist.
Madam C.J. Walker has had a resurgence with a new line, Beauty Culture. The collection contains four different formulas and collections that will do everything from mega moisturizing your hair to taming your frizz.
I used their silkening formula that ensures smooth style. It’s perfect for blowouts, which entails brassica seed and shea oil.
However, before we had access to Jamaican Castor Oil and knew the benefits of Murumuru Oil, we had the original pressing oil formula.
Madam C.J. Walker’s original formula is currently on display at The National Museum Of African-American History And Culture and the three ingredient formula contains one surprising ingredient: ox marrow!
The original formula is:
1 pint vaseline
Jar Ox Marrow
Stir 3 ingredients together and enough oil to perfume.
Marrow has a high content of minerals, vitamins, fatty acids and lipids – all essentials for strong, healthy hair. Beauties, would you have used the original formula now knowing it contains marrow?
