Our Houston Texans Selected Jayden Higgins with the No. 34 overall selection in April’s 2025 NFL draft and made history by signing him to a fully guaranteed, four-year rookie contract. This contract is now causing quite a stir for NFL front offices across the league.

A lesson for those unfamiliar with NFL rookie deals: players drafted in the first round are typically given fully guaranteed, four-year contracts, which is not usually extended to second-rounders and beyond. Most of those non-first-round picks will only have their first two or three years guaranteed, depending on their draft position. Which is a little safety net for most but That isn’t the case with Higgins, who is guaranteed $11.7 million through 2028.

Higgins has one of only two signed contracts among second-rounders as NFL training camps open this month, with Cleveland Browns inside linebacker Carson Schwesinger being the other (who also signed a fully guaranteed deal).

Texans Gm Nick Caserio is alway ahead of the curve as his fellow league executives rush to fix a messy situation. He’s also probably happy with the early progress Houston’s newest wide receiver has made. Higgins first official snaps with the Texans is Week 1 in September. Houston fans have a chance to see him on the practice field far sooner. The Texans begin training camp at their facility next to NRG Stadium beginning Wednesday, July 23, with the first of seven practices open to fans beginning on Saturday, July 26.

The Texans once again are the center of attention but in a good way as they make the rest of the league level up.
