Music legend Stevie Wonder addressed the long-standing conspiracy theory that he isn’t actually blind during a recent concert in Cardiff, Wales.

“I must say to all of you, something that I was thinking, ‘When did I want to let the world know this?’ But I wanted to say it right now,” Wonder was heard saying in Video

“You know there have been rumors about me seeing and all that?” Wonder went on. “But seriously, you know the truth.”

“Truth is, shortly after my birth, I became blind,” he told fans.Wonder, who has been blind since shortly after birth, used the opportunity to dispel the speculation and share his perspective on seeing the world through the “vision of truth.” Despite rumors and anecdotes suggesting otherwise,

Wonder reaffirmed his blindness and emphasized the importance of seeing people for their spirit rather than physical appearance. For years, the “Superstition” singer has credited his visual impairment as a key component to his creative genius.

“It’s played a part in that I’m able to use my imagination to go places, to write words about things I’ve heard people talk about,” he told The New York Times back in 1975. “In music and in being blind, I’m able to associate what people say with what’s inside me
