Fifty firefighters from several different agencies respond to a two alarm fire at the Camden Station Apartments in Northwest Harris County. About 10 units were damaged at the complex which sits near the intersection of Antoine and Veterans Memorial.

Mitchell Weston with the Harris County Fire Marshals Office tells us the flame started around 3:15 a.m.

in one of the laundry rooms. The roof collapsed and some of the walls gave way which appears to have triggered a gas leak from the meter. Centerpoint Energy was able to get the leak down to a small enough amount that firefighters could get the blaze under control.

Resident Michael Frederick says he was doing his family’s laundry right before the blaze. He had put three loads in the washer and left. He was coming back at the end of the cycle to put them in the dryer but never got a chance. He describes what he saw as “an inferno.”

Three families have been relocated in the same complex. One firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion but she will be fine. The cause of this fire is still under investigation.
