A call to the Liberty County Sheriff’s office about animal cruelty leads to a shocking discovery. Deputies arrived Tuesday night at a mobile home in the Tarkington area on County Road 2082. Deputies found neglected and dead animals including horses, dogs and cats.
Their invesitgation led them to the inside of the trailer and that’s where they made a shocking discovery. “We located a one=year-old child inside a very poor condition residence,” describes Capt. Rex Evans. “We have some type of indication that the child was being kept in possibly some type of cage here on the property.”
The cage was found in the corner of a clutter filled living room. Deputies reported the smell inside was overwhelming and discovered trash, debris and roaches. The woman in the trailer was arrested and charged with animal cruelty. But more charges could be coming.
Paramedics were called in to check on the little girl who was then turned over to Child Protective Services. The Houston SPCA has custody of the animals and will evaluate them Wednesday morning. Deputies secured the property overnight and are expected back Wednesday, armed with search warrants.
