The Bureau of Animal Regulation and Control’s “Pets of the Week” photo shoot turned out better than expected for at least one pooch. Houston Mayor Annise Parker adopted “Jax,” originally named “Oreo,” a cocker spaniel mix. Mayor Parker has been posing with the animals of BARC, working to get more than 2000 Houston dogs and cats adopted in an effort to win a $100,000 challenge from television star Rachael Ray. She says the little pup stole her heart as soon as he walked into City Hall and she knew immediately he would be a perfect pet for her son. She tweeted shortly after meeting the lovable pooch, “I confess. I couldn’t resist temptation. Took the BARC Dog of the Week home. Well, it went home with my son as gift from me. I’ll dog sit!” Jax is now making himself at home with the mayor’s family.
