A veteran sheriff’s sergeant is hospitalized after suffering several broken bones in an early morning crash.

Harris County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Christina Garza says Sgt. Felix Dlouhy was responding to a call about a stabbing at about 1:40 a.m. this morning when his car was struck broadside by a white SUV at the intersection of East Beltway 8 and Highway 90.

Dlouhy’s vehicle was so seriously damaged that the jaws of life were necessary to get him out. Garza says the sergeant was taken by life flight to memorial hermann hospital:

The female driver of the white SUV was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital in unknown condition. Contrary to early reports, she was the only occupant of that vehicle. It is believed that she was not at fault in the accident, which is under investigation.
