The NFL approved Houston’s bid for the 2017 Super Bowl Tuesday afternoon, returning football’s big night to Reliant Stadium for the first time since 2004. NFL owners also voted to return the Super Bowl to San Francisco after a 13-year absence from the state of California.

Houston has hosted two Super Bowls, including VIII at Rice Stadium in 1974, and XXXVIII, which played out at Reliant Stadium. The latter was the site of one of television’s most titillating live moments caught on air: the indecent exposure of Janet Jackson alongside Justin Timberlake in an alleged “wardrobe malfunction.”
