According to ABC News,

The Food and Drug Administration is trying to find out why close to 600 dogs that ate jerky treats died and are asking pet owners and veterinarians to help them figure out what’s causing the illness. The problem appears to be tied to dog treats made in China, which were sold under a wide variety of brand names, with reports received of illnesses in 3,600 dogs and 10 cats in the U.S., with 580 dog deaths. The FDA is appealing to pet owners and vets to send them more information on animals who may have gotten sick after eating the treats. Pets can suffer from a decreased appetite, decreased activity, vomiting and diarrhea among other symptoms within hours of eating the jerky treats.
